A healthy workplace is a happy one, keeping your mind and body healthy can improve productivity and give you the energy you need to get through the day.

These are some tips from Tribune on how to be healthy in the workplace.

Always prepare your lunches for work. This won’t only cost you less but it is also better for you if you follow a healthy plan. You want to prepare something that not only satisfies your hunger but is also good for you; depending on what you prepare you could feel more energized and healthier throughout your working day due to the food you eat. Which brings us to work snacks! We all love a good biscuit or two when it comes to snack time, but what if we could get the same satisfaction from something a little more healthy, there are plenty options just take your pick:

  • Fruit (such as bananas, apples and/or dried fruit)
  • Nuts
  • Yoghurt
  • Vegetable sticks
  • Dark chocolate (This one will win with most of us)

There are many snacks you can have and we have only listed a few. Each snack will benefit you in different ways. For example, a banana will give you energy whereas yoghurt is good for the teeth and bones.

If you work in an office you’ll probably spend most of your time sitting in front of a computer which is no good for your health. It would be better to find alternative ways to stay productive but also get a bit of exercise, and no getting up to make a coffee doesn’t count (trust me), but a nice walk on your lunch break does and even if you manage to stand while working (if you have a standing desk available), and though not in working hours biking to and/or from work will help keep you fit.

Finally always remember to take a break and get some rest. Make sure you get enough sleep so you aren’t fighting yourself to stay awake at work and, when at work, to prevent yourself from over stressing make sure you take a break. Never work through your lunch and don’t overwork yourself, sometimes you need to take a step back to see the answer clearly.

There are so many small things that could boost your health within the workplace which will not only help you with productivity but will give you a better well being, but remember you can enjoy things that may not be too good for you, but let’s make it every so often rather than every day.
